investigating
space and action

We are continuously exposed to idealistic messages that constitute an environment of desire. But the ideal cannot be reached. I’m interested in how we can describe realities beyond that emotionalized surface.

My installations, objects and architectural concepts investigate a new way of identifying Space, Matter and Making.  The works invite to understand space, abstraction and vision as physical counterparts in the perception of our environment. The work is intended to integrate the physical world in a critical discourse beyond representational references through phenomenology and action.

The exposure to the thinking of Joseph Beuys through my early arts education was formative in my approach to art and activism. To understand art as the way to conceptually redefine ones commitment to the contemporary world made me decide to volunteer in development aid in the early 1990ties. A four month stay in East Africa made me aware that the challenge is to address the understanding of cultural and economic supremacy of Western culture and its immediate grip on daily lives and nature. Knowledge about the creation of our physical environment and the role of representation are critical assets to address cultural conventions. Through my education in architecture in Germany and in USA (TUM and Harvard) I gained the technical and conceptual knowledge of how reality is constructed nowadays. A knowledge that is a part of the core of my artwork, which intends to re-identify and engage these realities on different levels.

Embedded in both, art and architecture my investigation focuses in Space, Matter and Making: Space as the redefinition of subjective and objective vision; Matter as pre-referential immediacy; and Making as a primary of action and interaction altering our physical reality. Based on my discourse and knowledge my expressions include works of art and concepts in architecture.
